Teachers continue to receive support to deliver online classes

Teachers will continue to benefit from continuous training and efficient curriculum delivery methods in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Expressing gratitude for the tremendous work teachers are doing, Assistant Chief Education Officer (Technical), Patrick Chinedu said that these tough, unprecedented times expose the real nature of the role teachers play.

Chinedu told DPI, teachers will continue to receive additional support and training to make their delivery easier.

The Ministry is working on several measures to ensure the comfort of teachers and students during and after the novel coronavirus 2019.

Since the beginning of the modernisation of the school curriculums, teachers have begun to receive training to integrate technology into their classrooms.

Director of the National Centre of Educational Resources Development (NCERD) Jennifer Cumberbatch urged parents to support teachers and their children.

“We recognise that this is hard on all of us, we are putting plans in train to ensure that teachers get more comfortable with online teaching,” she noted.

The Ministry is encouraging parents to continue to come on board and utilise resources available for at-home learning including resources from the Ministry of Education’s website (www.education.gov.gy) which has already attracted over four hundred thousand downloads.

Some teachers will be provided with free access to online learning platforms that usually attract a cost to reach more students.

Moving forward, the ministry will embark on data gathering and assessment to plan more long-term solutions for teachers and students that will impact the future of education delivery in Guyana.
