24hr power supply for Kwakwani in 2019

In 2019, residents of Kwakwani, Region Ten, Upper Demerara-Berbice will have 24 hours of uninterrupted power supply as more money will soon be pumped into the Kwakwani Utility Incorporated (KUI).

The sum of $374Million which was approved by the Committee of Supply on Tuesday evening, which will go towards fuel and lubricants. Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson told the National Assembly that a portion of the funds will provide for the purchase of fuel to supply 24 hours electricity to the community.

“The money will also cater for the water, sanitation and other utilities in Kwakwani. But our main priority is supplying the residents with 24-hour of electricity soon,” Minister Patterson stated. Some $37Million will go towards upgrading the distribution network in Kwakwani.

KUI is managed by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s Hinterland Electrification Company Incorporated (HECI), whose mandate is to ensure that electrical systems are established across the hinterland regions, so as to improve systems operations.

The company was allocated $233.5Million for projects including the installation of a 400 KW Solar PV Farm at Mabaruma in Region One; installation of a metal lattice tower to support electricity distribution lines across the Port Kaituma River and extension of the distribution network at Moco Moco and residences within the proximity of rodeo ground in Region Nine.
