“Coalition govt is legal” – City Mayor tells statutory meeting

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, September 24, 2019

The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) has indicated its unwavering commitment to stand united with the APNU+AFC Coalition Government.

This declaration was made by His Worship the Mayor of Georgetown, Pandit Ubraj Narine, during his announcements at the council’s September statutory meeting on Monday.

Seated at the helm of the table, the mayor said: “as Mayor and Councillors of the Mayor and City Council, we recognise that the government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana is a legal government.”

Mayor Narine advised that regardless of the chatter in certain sections of the society, regarding the current administration, residents should be resolute in their decisions to support a government that is working continually to meet the needs of its people. “I encourage citizens of Georgetown and all Guyanese in the diaspora to stand strong and support this legal government.”

Mayor Narine remains adamant that until a final date for General and Regional Elections is announced, and the elections held, His Excellency, President David Granger remains Head of State of the Cooperate Republic of Guyana and continues to execute his duties.

“So, we will continue to recognise our government,” Mayor Narine reiterated with much enthusiasm at the end of his announcements to statutory.
