Govt donates to River’s View Village

The Government of Guyana through the Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Essequibo Islands-West Demerara, Jennifer Ferreira-Dougall donated several items to the community of River’s View.
The community is a largely Indigenous settlement at Lower Bonasika in the Essequibo River. The items donated include kites, clothes, sporting gear and farming equipment which were all handed over to the community at a ceremony held at the community’s New Testament Church on Saturday, April 13.
According to the REO, a visit was made to the community by the regional administration earlier in the month and having recognised the need for farming equipment she made the necessary representation to government.
“We came in here at River’s View Village earlier in the month and recognised the need for farming equipment, so I represented the community to Minister Amna Ally who provided the farming equipment, sporting gear and clothing for the community. The kites were donated by me and represent the region’s contribution to the children of this peaceful community. We want the children to enjoy Easter just like all other children of our beautiful region,” Ferreira-Dougall related.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the community was Toshao Stafford Williams, who is also the Pastor of the New Testament Church in the community.
“It will be unfair of me not to stand and express gratitude to the Government of Guyana for this donation. It will surely help all the farmers of our community and definitely bring smiles to the families, especially the children. I must say we have been in existence here for the past 17 years and this is the first time a donation of this magnitude was made to us and for that, we are very grateful,” Toshao Williams noted.
Additional works that were done to benefit the community to include a 150ft revetment of riprap done by the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and excavation of all the main canals done by the Regional Administration. The region has also committed to building a ramp for the benefit of all the residents particularly the children making it easier for them to use boats when going to school.
