‘I do not control what Coalition members say; I expect them to be in accord with the principles of our partnership’ – Pres. Granger

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, July 2, 2020

His Excellency President David Granger stated that he is not responsible for the comments made by former ministers and political parties under the Coalition.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event on Wednesday, the Head of State was questioned about the recent remarks by former Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin and Coalition member C.N. Sharma of the Justice For All party.

“I don’t have any comments on what a former Minister says. I comment on what active membership says,” the Head of State replied.

President Granger further clarified that while they all come under one partnership, the other parties included in the A Partnership for Nation Unity – Guyana Action Party, the Justice for All Party, the National Front Alliance and the Working People’s Alliance, make statements on their own accord.

“I do not dictate what they say although I have every expectation that what they say and do are in accord with the principles of the entire partnership,” he emphasised.

The Head of State disclosed that the parties meet regularly noting that the Justice for All Party has never been excluded “especially over the last seventeen weeks.”

“I am not responsible for what they say but what I do know is that the Justice for All Party acted on its own accord and at our meetings we have clearly outlined the policy of the partnership.”

The President noted that he was not aware of the concerns expressed by the JFAP as the process being pursued was always explained.

“This is no secret and all six parties are aware of the positions which we have been taking in our approach to the elections commission. We don’t have any hidden agenda within the Coalition.”
