Record-Breaking Seon Booker on Track

—decorated athlete awarded Regional Scholarship

Buxton Secondary, student, Seon Booker, who was awarded Sportsman of the year for Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) will receive a regional scholarship to complete his Secondary education at the Bladen Hall Multilateral School.

Booker broke the then standing record in the boys Under 16 400M and 800M races at the 59th National Schools’ Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships, held November 17-22, 2019.

Regional Education Officer (RedO) Tiffany Harvey disclosed at the Regional Award Ceremony today that a billboard has been erected in his honour at the Buxton Secondary School.  She disclosed that the Region is focusing on the development of their resident athletes through a balance of both the academic and extra-curricular.

Booker trains with the Police Progressive Youth Club (PPYC) and has been making waves on the track for years. Along with the scholarship, he was provided with a book voucher and a ‘sports bag’ filled with all the necessary equipment for his on-the-track success.

Booker and other outstanding athletes from the Demerara-Mahaica area were rewarded at an award ceremony hosted by the Department of Education, Region Four at the National Cultural Centre today.
