Reg Six Rapid Response Technical team yielding success
-most complaints relate to NIS and utility services

The Rapid Response Technical Team established by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali in Region Six is already yielding results, reducing the fatigue residents often experience while trying to address minor matters. President Ali spearheaded the initiative, during a recent outreach to the Region, to ensure that residents’ concerns are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
Regional Chairman, Mr. David Armogan, in an interview with DPI, said the response has been tremendous.
“Almost daily we have been managing to deal with five or six complaints every day. Some people get results immediately, some will have to wait on the results based on matters having to be sent to other agencies for a reply. So, when a reply comes, we call the person and let them know what the position is, but about 75 per cent of the cases we are able to solve very quickly.”
Mr. Armogan leads the team, which also comprises the Vice Chairman and the Regional Executive Officer. All Government agencies are also on board to make problem-solving a smooth process.
“I think generally, people are happy with the system that was set up and people know that now they have somewhere they can go to lodge their complaints and they get results much faster than before,” he said.
The Regional Chairman also noted that most of the issues addressed by the team relate to the National Insurance Scheme, Guyana Power and Light, Guyana Water Incorporated and the Guyana Police Force.
The Chairman said former REO of the Region Dr. Veerasammy Ramayya has been appointed Coordinator of the team. Dr. Ramayya, he said, is responsible for gathering the complaints and forwarding them to him for action.
“We have more people working now in terms of going around. Instead of people coming to our offices alone, we also have foot soldiers who are going around in the villages to look at the issues, bring them to us and then we try to get them solved,” Mr. Armogan said.
President Ali, during his engagement in the Region, had said while the Government is focusing on the major projects, they would not forget the little things that affect people in the community.
“In many instances, if there is a less bureaucratic mode of communication from the region to agencies like the NDIA, Lands and Surveys, NIS, Central Housing and Planning Authority then many of these issues can be resolved,” the President said.
In addition to Region Six, President Ali has so far also established teams in Regions Two and 10. The initiative will be taken across the country soon.
