The Regional Administration of Cuyuni-Mazaruni is continuing efforts to improve the delivery of services to residents of the hinterland district.

Regional Executive Officer (REO), Roderick Edinborough told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that particular emphasis is being placed on establishing improved facilities and accommodation to attract and keep medical personnel within Region Seven.

“…proper accommodation has a spin-off of attracting the requisite skills. In the region, there is a paucity of the skills hence… we need to make provisions for them in terms of housing and accommodation,” Edinborough noted.

The REO said efforts are continuing, to take critical services in education and healthcare to the communities, in an effort to reduce costs and time for those needing these services.

Doctors’ quarters are being constructed at Isseneru and Phillipai while there are resident doctors in Waramadong, Kako Jawalla, Issano and Imbaimadai. An inpatient facility will soon to be established to cater for patients who travel long distances to seek medical attention, while a health post has been completed at Kurutuku.

Several new school buildings are expected to be completed this year. Among them is the new expansion at Paruima Primary School and the school in Arrau. The teacher’s quarters have also been completed in Imbaimadai and in Wamaradong.

According to Edinborough, for 2017 the regional administration “achieved approximately 97 percent both in the capital and current [expenditure].”
