Region Three, Education Delivery, Public Infrastructure estimates approved

Approximately $2.750B in current expenditure was approved, today, by the Committee of Supply for the Education Delivery Programmes within Region Three, Essequibo Islands/West Demerara without queries from the Opposition.

Subsequently, the sum of $131.64M current expenditure was allotted to Public Infrastructure Programmes, thirty million of which will go towards maintenance of roads in the region. The motion was put forward to the House and the current expenditures were approved for both programmes.

Meanwhile, for capital expenditure, the sums of $119, 129M and $149,871M were approved by the National Assembly for Public Infrastructure and Education Delivery programmes respectively, in Region Three.

Queries were put forward by the Opposition Member Ganga Persaud, regarding the bridges and roads projects within the infrastructure programme.

According to Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan, the proposed projects have seen a one hundred percent increase over the 2017 allocations which will see the construction and rehabilitation of roads and bridges in the region; he further opted to layover the itinerary to the Opposition within 48 hours.

With regards to Education Delivery, $134,741M will see the provision for schools, sanitary blocks, quarters, gas lines and the payment of retention.

Minister Bulkan noted that a $4.371M retention payment will be provided for the Education Department Building and Stores, and the Special Needs School in the Schoonard community on the West Bank of Demerara, which will be completed before the end of 2017.
