Steelpans delivered

−West Demerara Secondary receives promised musical instruments

DPI, Guyana, Friday, December 13, 2019

Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Raphael Trotman has made good on a promise to provide steelpans to the West Demerara Secondary School, Pouderoyen.

He had committed to funding the purchase of the pans after being impressed by the talent of the school’s Steelpan Orchestra at a community meeting back in August.

Delivering the instruments on Friday Minister Trotman encouraged the students to always work for whatever they wanted.

“Do not give up on what is it you want to achieve, whether it’s an engineer, a president, whether you want to open a catering business or security firm, just consider it and get it done,” Minister Trotman stated.

The minister added that he too was a mischievous youngster and performing poorly at one point, but with the support of his mother and teachers, he buckled down and was eventually successful.

“Never ever see yourself as incapable, never let anybody tell you that you are not bright, don’t let anybody say that you cannot achieve whatever it is you want to achieve,” he urged the students.

He added that he was happy to fulfil the promise made to Headmaster Harrinarine and the school and commended the administrator for looking out for his school’s interest.

Meanwhile, Harrinarine said the staff and students appreciated the minister’s gesture.

West Demerara Secondary School placed second in the Republic Bank Mashramani Panorama Steelpan Competition, in the Large Youth Band category back in February.
