“I am happy that as a country we are doing our best. Unfortunately, because of the constitutional restrictions, we have no budget… however even with these limitations, we have been able to keep the fatalities very low,” the President said during an appearance on the radio show “Straight up”.

To date, the country has a total of 159 confirmed cases. However, recently, Guyana has seen a massive recovery rate of COVID-19 patients with a total of 95 and a mere 12 deaths.

Over the past three weeks, there have been cases of the virus appearing in the hinterland regions.

President Granger assured that while Guyana shares an 1100-kilometre border with Brazil which currently has the second largest number of COVID-19 cases globally, his government is “in control of the situation”.

“In the circumstances, we have been doing well. I am very proud of my Ministers and proud of our doctors and nurses particularly,” the Head of State said.

He highlighted that the United States and the Republic of China have been leding support to help slow the spread of the virus. Additionally, it was pointed out that every ministry has a plan in place to also combat the deadly virus.
