Ghanaian high-level team calls on PM Nagamootoo

A Ghanaian high-level team is in Guyana to engage the government and other relevant stakeholders on matters of mutual interest within the oil and gas sector.

The team paid a courtesy call, this morning, on Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo to discuss their interest in the oil and gas sector and other areas of interest. The team was warmly received by the Prime Minister who stressed that “we don’t have to relive the experiences of the past; we have to now invent the opportunities of the future.” He noted that all matters discussed during their meeting concerning the petroleum industry will be forwarded to the relevant authorities.

Prime Minister Nagamootoo explained the long history of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He is looking forward to further engagements with the Government of Ghana as he encouraged the delegation to “move around and enjoy Guyana,” as there are many aspects of the country that are not known.

In addition, the Prime Minister also highlighted that while the development of oil and gas sector is on the forefront of the country’s business agenda, many other sectors can lead to fruitful business endeavours between the two parties.

Head of the delegation, Ghana’s Minister of Energy, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his hospitality and delivered greetings on behalf of the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, who is expected to visit Guyana shortly. He highlighted that our many years of diplomatic relations should now see our people working together to foster further economic development.

The Ghanaian delegation has been in Guyana since May 25, 2019, and has met with several ministers and government officials. The delegation also includes Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana, Napoleon Abdulai, Technical Advisor at Ghana’s Ministry of Energy, Edwin Provencal, Director of Programmes at the Office of the President (Ghana), Nana Ama Ntim, CEO of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. K.K Sarpong, Manager of Sustainability – Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Patrick Ofori, CEO (ag) Petroleum Commission – Ghana, Egbert Faibille Jnr, CEO Ghana Gas, Dr. Ben Asante and Managing Partner, Cromwell Gray LLP Kissi Agyebeng.
