Mahaicony Methodist Church oldest citizen celebrates 99

A year shy of a century, Glendora Drennon, the oldest citizen of the Mahaicony Methodist Church celebrated her birth anniversary at the weekend surrounded by generations of family in the City and Minister of Social Protection, Volda Lawrence.

Glendora, the mother of 12, was born on October 15, 1917 in the village of Mahaicony and worked as a care giver in her young days. Over the years, her children have given her 65 grand, great grand and great great grand children.

An ardent fan of gospel music and the Guyana Defence Force’s Band, Glendora was described by her relatives and friends as very intelligent and loving. The 99-year-old is still active and spends a large portion of her day reading, she said.
