Region Three establishes intelligence team to ensure effective management

The Essequibo Islands-West Demerara (Region Three) Democratic Council has established a Regional Intelligence Committee (RIC) aimed at identifying problems and providing solutions aimed at enhancing residents’ lives.

Regional Chairman, Mr. Sheik Ayube said the Committee, which was introduced in October 2020, would help to inform a more efficient and effective approach to managing the Region.

“The RIC is gathering information across the Region that involves all aspects, which varies from crime to social problems. We will now be able to identify certain problems that are affecting our residents and come up with solutions to it,” he said.

While the RIC was only recently established, Mr. Ayube said he is satisfied with its progress to date. Information is gathered from community outreaches and partnerships and the most urgent needs identified so that they can be addressed.  Youth development is among several areas that have been identified for strengthening to ensure that young people are engaged in productive activities.

For example, Mr. Ayube said, “If we go into a community and we see that the young people are not gainfully occupied, then we will seek to provide a programme which will not only keep them occupied, but acquire a skill whether through a collaborative effort or on our own.”

He added that the administration hopes to focus on areas which will promote unity, cohesion and harmony to advance the Region’s development.  This, he said, is in keeping with President Dr. Mohammed Irfaan Ali’s vision for inclusive governance starting at the community level.

The Head of State has said that his Government would focus on community needs to generate “growth opportunities, or growth hubs within a cluster of communities that can generate employment, create sustainable development.” The Committee is headed by the Regional Chairman and includes  Regional Vice Chairman, Mr. Omesh Satyanand and personnel from the Police Force.
