DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, June 19, 2019

The Coalition Government continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering the good life for all Guyanese.

During a community meeting in the close-knit village of Karrau in the Lower Mazaruni District on Wednesday morning, Minister of State, Dawn Hastings-Williams reiterated the government’s mandate of ensuring that the needs of citizens are met.

“We believe that people must have basic amenities,” Minister Hastings-Williams remarked before announcing the installation of solar street lights in the community.

“Your government is a caring government and that is why we are going to be installing these stand-alone solar streetlights in your community,” she told the residents. The Minister explained that the project will see 20 lights being installed initially.

The community meeting follows another successful “Government comes to you” outreach hosted in Bartica. After her remarks, the residents of the community took advantage of airing their concerns to the Minister of State who gladly lent an ear and brought clarity to several issues.

The Minister urged the residents to hold their officials accountable.

The Toshao and his council have to update you… we call that transparency and accountability, so you know how the monies were spent.”

Minister Hastings- Williams toured the community visiting both the school and health centre. She also called on the village’s eldest residents Verna Cornelius and Roy Benjamin where she presented them with hampers as an appreciation for their contributions in the community.

Minister Hastings-Williams also donated a sewing machine to the Karrau Women’s Group and encouraged them to use it wisely.
