This team comprises additional personnel and is tasked with focusing on specific areas to support the medical team in the village to reduce the spread of Covid.

Recently, the National COVID-19 Task Force began focusing on Waramadong after a spike in positive cases.  To date the village has recorded 34 positive cases.

“They have been talking to the villagers, testing people, and getting them to comply with the guidelines that we have given them. So that’s an area of concern because we have 34 cases there now, and we are going to continue monitoring that area to ensure that we are going to be able to contain the virus,” Dr. Anthony said during Tuesday’s COVID-19 update.

Meanwhile, the Task Force continues to monitor other areas that recently experienced spikes, including Moraikobai, Mahaica-Berbice (Region Five).

“Moraikobai, we have seen, since we have sent in the team, they keep testing and discharging people who were positive, so the numbers that we have at Moraikobai right now are within manageable limit,” Dr. Anthony said.

An unknown number of students and at least two teachers have tested positive for the disease in Moraikobai.  Minister Anthony said most of those persons are in home isolation and are monitored by officials.

The Task Force last weekend took the decision to station a doctor in the community to support medical personnel there.
