Acting CEO of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo), Mr. Sasenarine Singh, has said the investment focus at the Blairmont Sugar Estate will be on the factories and fields.

Mr. Singh made these remarks during a guided tour of the West Bank Berbice facility Wednesday morning.

“We [are] bringing back energy to rural Berbice and Demerara. We are going to make sure we are not spending too much on fluff and puff, will focus on the factories, fields and the cane transportation route,” the CEO said.

Accompanied by Estate Manager, Mr. Hutton Griffith, the CEO walked through the area where canes are processed before sugar is produced. He also observed operations over at the packaging room where crystal sugar was being packaged by three operating machines of various sizes. These operations were all complemented with massive manpower. The packages were then sorted into bales and stored in the bond for the export market.

Mr. Singh said he is satisfied with the procedures at the factory, which produces sugar primarily for foreign markets.

The CEO had done a similar tour of the Enmore Sugar Estate on Tuesday to obtain a first-hand look at the operations.
