DPI, Guyana, Saturday, February 15, 2020

Children and their parents woke up excited this morning and prepared to hit the road early as the 2020 Children’s Costume and Float Parade got underway today.

At the Parade Ground, the little ones were buzzing with energy as they got into their costumes and spectators began to line the route

With over 50 schools from across the country participating the colourful parade moved off promptly at 10:30am. Leading the procession was Minister of Education Dr. the Hon. Nicolette Henry and her 200-strong band accompanied by the GBTI/ Buxton Steel Pan Band.

“At the education sector we take our work seriously and we also enjoy what we do. So, we are in the spirit of celebrating after hard work…I feel good about the whole occasion, I think the people are having a good time; our young people are on the street as you can see there is a lot of schools out marching under the theme, “Transforming Guyana through Education,” Minister Henry told DPI

Spectators gathered along the route whipped out their phones to take a snapshot of the many innovative and eye-catching costumes.

DPI spoke to a few of the spectators along the route.

“I brought my nieces and kids so that we can get to look at the children’s Mash and enjoy the parade, you know…it is just fun to see the children taking part,” Lalita Justice said.

For Elroy King, he and his family were out to support his daughter who was participating in the parade.

“My daughter is a part of the parade and so we had to come out to support. She is attending Winfred Gardens… I will be here for the show, it is worth the wait,” he told DPI.
