EU Ambassador Calls on Foreign Minister
Ambassador of the European Union to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Jernej Videtič, today called on Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Dr. Karen Cummings.
Among areas of mutual interest, they discussed Guyana-European Union (EU) relations, including ongoing post-Cotonou negotiations. The Cotonou Agreement which provides a framework for African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) – EU relations is set to expire in February 2020.
Furthermore, they exchanged views on the Caribbean Forum of ACP States (CARIFORUM) –EU Economic Partnership Agreement, a shared commitment on climate change and the green economy, and the upcoming Guyana-EU Political Dialogue scheduled to be held later this year.
Guyana’s relationship with the European Union was forged when Guyana signed the historic Georgetown Agreement in 1975.
