The Coalition Government continues to have “full confidence in the Guyana Police Force”, according to Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon. This was his response to a question about the Coalition Government’s take on recent police successes in the crime fight. The DG hosted post-Cabinet Press Conference earlier today.

The elimination of 6 bandits within two weeks, DG Harmon said, signalled the impact of the GPF’s better leadership. He opined, “It’s a better cadre of senior officers. It is a better cadre of intelligence officers who are now ensuring that police operations are intelligence-led and intelligence-driven.”

DG Harmon added that it is the intelligence which is provided to the police that has allowed them to confront gangs. He reiterated that the government has the “full confidence in the ability of our police officers, to deal with crime in this country.”

The DG further pointed out that that the Police Commissioner is preparing to host a press conference on Monday. Issues of crime and a recent US travel advisory will be addressed.

Asked about the US travel advisory, DG Harmon observed that any such move by countries, “is not something we could say we are happy about.” He opined that when advisories are announced, potential visitors become wary not only about travel but also about investing. DG Harmon reiterated that the Coalition Government remains steadfast in its confidence in the Police Force to address any security concerns.

He further assured, “Guyana is a safe place to live. It is a safe place to work. It is a safe place to invest.”
