Ministry of Social Protection donates supplies to Pineapple Street fire victims
Georgetown, Guyana – (October 17, 2018) The Ministry of Social Protection’s Difficult Circumstances Unit (DCU), today, donated a quantity of emergency supplies to Ms. Shanice Barrington and family, who suffered losses when their Pineapple Street, East Ruimveldt home was destroyed by fire on Friday.
Ministry of Social Protection, Technical Officer, Ms. Mabiola Howard, who presented the items to Ms. Barrington on behalf of Minister, Ms. Amna Ally, said that the Ministry intends to provide additional support to the family. The donated items included a mattress, a pair of pillows, kitchen utensils, cutlery and cleaning agents.
In response, Ms. Barrington said that she is grateful to the Minister and Ministry for the donation. “The emotion that I am feeling is hard to explain, but I am happy and thankful at the same time… We are thankful to the Ministry for providing some materials for us to rebuild,” she said.
Presently, the family of six is being accommodated at relatives and friends while the debris from the fire is being cleared to facilitate reconstruction.
