No. 79 Village to benefit from roadworks
─water woes to also be addressed
Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal has assured residents of Number 79 Village, Upper Corentyne, Region Six that a new road network will be built that will benefit their community.
The Minister made this commitment on Saturday, during an outreach to the village and nearby areas. His visit followed a request from the Crabwood Creek Neighbourhood Democratic Council.
“I’m going to work closely with the Ministry of Local Government [and] the Public Works Ministry, even if we start from somewhere, to identify one main street and we’ll keep going down in a progressive way […] I can commit that at least one main area will start in the new year as part of our budget programme,” Minister Croal said at the meeting.
Residents raised concerns about a decade-old boundary and squatting matter affecting them. The Minister pledged to seek a legal resolution to the matter and urged them to be patient as it will take some time to address.
They also complained about the high iron content and inaccessibility to potable water. In response, Minister Croal said interventions will be made for unserved areas. He also assured them that reducing the iron content in water is a priority for the Government. The Administration is currently seeking funding to upgrade water treatment capacity in the 2021 work programme.
Several other issues related to agriculture, electricity and local government were also raised. Minister Croal committed to forwarding them to the relevant subject Ministers.
