‘Operation CoviCurb’ fans out across country

Ranks from the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Defence Force today, continued to distribute masks and educate the public about the importance of observing the COVID-19 safety measures as ‘Operation CoviCurb’ was taken across the country.

The joint exercise was conducted around the city, at Timehri, East Bank Demerara, and in New Amsterdam and Corentyne, East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six).

Speaking to the Department of Public Information, ‘A’ Division Commander, Superintendent, Simon McBean disclosed that the exercise which commenced on Friday, will run for one month.

“We have changed our posture as it relates to enforcement. So, it is an educational approach for us. Enforcement alone cannot solve the issues we’re facing; it relies on every individual to play an important part in participating,” Commander McBean.

The dedicated patrol will be operating between 01:00hrs and 22:00hrs and will be focusing their engagements in the built-up areas where people congregate, namely market areas and bus parks. Commander McBean is urging the public to co-operate with the Joint Services.

“I would ask the general public to adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines, it will help us all,” he said, even as he urged individuals to act responsibly to protect themselves and loved ones.

CoviCurb is part of the Government strategy to combat the dreaded disease. The Government has been working assiduously to ensure the public is properly educated on the dangers of COVID-19 and how to protect themselves.

Individuals are reminded to wash their hands thoroughly and frequently, practice social distancing, desist from social gatherings, and to wear a mask when heading outdoors.
