Region Nine COVID-19 cases being monitored -Minister Anthony
Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony says the Ministry is monitoring the Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo (Region Nine), which has recorded a spike in Covid positive cases.
During Thursday’s COVID-19 update, Dr. Anthony said several communities in the Region have been experiencing a spike, but the Ministry has taken steps to contain the disease. Apoteri and Rewa in the Rupununi River have recorded the most cases.
“The increase in number of cases that we are now seeing in the Region is primarily because of these two communities, so we have teams that went in.
They have done testing, monitoring and for those persons who are negative, we are able to offer them the vaccine,” he said.
Minister Anthony said the national vaccination programme remains critical to the prevention of the disease.
Persons 18 years and older are advised to take advantage of the opportunity to immunise themselves against the disease at any of the Ministry’s fixed COVID-19 vaccination sites.
