Rose Hall to be brighter, additional streetlights to be installed

“The additional lights, I would say, is really a great idea,” said Camille Cox, a visitor to Rose Hall. This was in response to Minister of Public Infrastructure, Hon. David Patterson’s announcement that then town is expected to be brighter with the installation of 40 additional streetlights.
Kenneth Branco, a plantain chip and peanut vendor also welcomed the development. “Well, I hope they put it in quickly. We do need lights because sometimes the place is very dark at nights, so we do need those lights,” the vendor conveyed during an invited comment with the Department of Public Information (DPI).
The two Rose Hall residents were part of the gathering at a community meeting hosted by Minister Patterson.
During remarks, the minister noted, “we are changing all the old type, from the high-pressure sodium vapour to the new LED lights.”
The LED lights consume less than half the amount of electricity, thereby are more efficient. These lights will allow the government to maintain its pledge to uphold the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal Number 7, which seeks to ensure access to affordable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
At present, the repairs to the circuits and hardware are currently underway. The Public Infrastructure Minister has set an urgent date at which installation of the lights will begin.
“We are starting work on the [light] change-out for Rose Hall on Sunday the 18th [of August] to fully light these corridors.”
These 40 lights will accommodate the 30 LED lights that were already handed over to the township by the ministry.
Concerning road upgrades within the township, Minister Patterson noted the second cross street in Phase 2 and another small miscellaneous road are currently identified for rehabilitation.
The community engagement in Rose Hall was held to allow residents an opportunity to relay their concerns and issues to the minister. Similar meetings were held throughout many communities within Region 6: East Berbice-Corentyne.
