Spreading Christmas cheers to Alberttown children

─ Min. Ally and Min. Lawrence distribute gifts, snacks and food hampers to families

DPI, Guyana, Monday, December 17, 2018

The Ministry of Social Protection continued its 2018 Christmas Drive today to spread the joys of the festive season. Several children from Alberttown and surrounding communities received gifts and snacks while their parents received food hampers.

Also, present at the gift distribution exercises were Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence and Mayor-elect of Georgetown, Pandit Ubraj Narine among other government officials.

Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally conveyed her apology to the children and parents for the absence of President David Granger, noting that as a ‘soldier’ of the government, herself and Minister Lawrence will help spread the Christmas cheer.

“We are here to bring Christmas greetings and wishes for a Happy New Year, though he is not well and unable to be here… he has many soldiers to represent him,” the minister said.

Minister Lawrence also expressed well wishes to all and hopes that this drive will bring smiles upon the faces of the children, partaking in the event.

Mayor-elect Pandit Narine said that this initiative is to simply to give back to his constituency and hope that all can participate. He noted that the government will continue to provide its support for the development of the community and young people.
