Bishop’s student Devika Rajaram leads DPI for a Day

– A ‘day to remember’

DPI, Guyana, Friday, July 20, 2018

Sixteen-year-old Devika Rajaram from the Bishops High School had a ‘Day to Remember’ as she performed the duties of “Director for the Day” at the Department of Public Information (DPI). The director started her day off with a Management meeting with the Heads of Departments of the agency and representatives from the Guyana Telephone Company (GTT).

This was followed by a ‘meet and greet’ with the other staff members of the agency. The “Director” also toured the ongoing expansion at the department and gave it her nod of approval.

She then proceeded to the National Toshaos Council meeting at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC), where she engaged several toshaos and Senior Village Councillors and sat in on meetings.

Director for the day, Rajaram then headed over to Parliament Buildings where she paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo and Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman.

Devika described her day as a memorable one. “Everyone at DPI was so kind. I was expecting the place to be strict but I have enjoyed every moment of it.”

Devika is pursuing a career in Accounting. She had some words of advice for her fellow students.  “Basically, when you get into high school, don’t focus on the subjects you don’t like. Just try to do your best and that way you will and eventually you will find very soon you will take a liking to it. Even if you don’t get to do your first-choice career, always make sure you have to a second option and trust that everything will work itself out.”
