Former Labour Ministry, SILWFC Reports to be laid in National Assembly

GINA, GUYANA, Thursday, April 27, 2017

Minister of State Joseph Harmon has indicated that annual reports for the former Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security and the Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund Committee (SILWFC) are to be laid in the National Assembly shortly.

Minister Harmon, speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing today, at the Ministry of the Presidency said, “The submission of these reports is part of a continuing process of regularising the lack of accountability by many government agencies over the years and underscores the present administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.”

The reports for the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security are for the years 2013 and 2014 while the SILWFC’s report is for the year 2015. Cabinet accepted the reports and approved for them to be laid in the National Assembly as provided for by law.

Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally presented these documents to Cabinet. Upon assuming office in 2015, the APNU+AFC government saw it fit to carry out audit reports on a number of government agencies and ministries.

Meanwhile, the report for the SILWFC records the overall financial and administrative performance of the committee, as well as highlights issues that were faced by the committee before it was dissolved.
