The Government of Guyana is considering making education at the University of Guyana free.

Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo stated that education plays a pivotal role in shaping a country’s future both economically and socially.

“President David Granger and I are looking at the possibility of abolishing fees at the University of Guyana in our second term in office,” the Prime Minister disclosed.

He assured the residents of the region that the Coalition Government cares about its young people. During a community meeting at the Aurora Secondary School on the Essequibo Coast, Prime Minister Nagamootoo emphasised that youth development is crucial to a nation’s progress.

He noted that the Coalition Government is cognisant of this and is working on bridging the gaps where they may exist. Since assuming office in 2015, the administration has been on a mission to ensure that Guyana’s young people are educated and their talents are nurtured and developed.

The Prime Minister drove home the fact that having a young educated populace is the epitome of democracy.

“You, as new leaders, can lead the country in a different way. You can take this country in the age of oil and gas and wealth in a way we have never dreamt.”

During the community, residents were left satisfied after Prime Minister Nagamootoo pledged to donate $100,000 in sports equipment to the Pomona Football Club to aid in the meaningful engagement of the community’s youths.
