Responding to a question about the possible shutdown of the country the minister noted that the situation regarding the virus in Guyana is a fluid one, therefore measures are implemented based on the situation at hand to ensure that the population is protected.

“Within the last 24 hours recommendations have been made… the task force would be meeting and considering those suggestions. Those recommendations are based on social distancing, cough etiquette and the continuous washing of hands and the task force will pronounce on these sooner rather than later,” Minister Lawrence said.

Meanwhile, the HEOC employs measures within the health sector to manage the disease presence in Guyana.

Minister Lawrence explained that while the task force meets to decide the way forward on a national level HEOC makes “specific recommendations to various entities and organizations in both the private and public sector. We have been working with them individually based on what they do and how they present their service to the populace.”
