Local Government Elections for November 12
– 2nd Coalition election to be held within constitutionally required timeframe

Local Government Elections (LGE) will be held on November 12, following a declaration made by Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan earlier today. The minister said $2.9Billion dollars have been allocated to the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) for preparations.
Minister Bulkan said,
“Local Government Elections will again be held later this year, in November of this year, and in fact though I haven’t made a public announcement before and it was not my intention to do so. An order issued by me is expected to be gazetted today naming November 12 to be the date when Local Government Elections will be held.”
This is the second local government elections being held under the current administration when constitutionally due. When those elections are held in November, it will mark the first time in 50 years of Guyana’s post-colonial history that successive local government elections are held when constitutionally due.
“It speaks to the commitment and the sincerity and the determination of this administration to honour pledges given by it when we were in opposition to rebuild this broken and damaged system of local of local government that we inherited.”
Minister Bulkan today addressed the 12th Annual National Toshaos Council Conference at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre. He was among a team of ministers there to address matters of concern to the Indigenous Peoples’ of Guyana.
Local Government Elections (LGE) are held in Guyana using a Mixed Electoral System of Proportional Representation and First-Past-the-Post. Fifty percent or half of the number of councillors of each Local Authority Area will be elected through the Proportional Representation component and the other fifty percent through the First-Past-the-Post or Constituency component.
