Major infrastructural upgrades slated for Enterprise, Success communities

– footpath bridges to be built at Enterprise
– upgrades underway for roads and drains

Residents of Enterprise and Success on the East Coast Demerara can soon expect upgrades to their internal roads. While numerous ongoing works were rolled over from the 2020 Emergency Budget, emphasis would be placed on bridging the infrastructural gaps by maintaining other structures.

This announcement followed an inspection of the works planned for Enterprise by Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Hon. Deodat Indar.

“The bridge that they are using to connect Enterprise Gardens to Enterprise proper at the back there, the two bridges there, one of them is shaking. Then on the other side at Nonpareil connecting to Enterprise, where the school children have to sojourn a long-distance… we would be connecting a footpath bridge there too, so that it would be easier and faster to get to school,” he said.

Sectional repairs will also be done on the main access roads of the community.

Additionally, the Minister appealed to residents to remove their structures from the Government reserves so that development works could progress on the community drains.

Chairman of the Buxton-Foulis Neighbourhood Democratic Council, Mr. Roger Evelyn told DPI the upgrades are critical since the existing road network is dilapidated.

“When it rains, it is significantly poor…So, the residents would have a lot of better health, better ambiance and everything thing, as a result of these projects,” he said.

Over at Success, Minister Indar was joined by Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon. Charles Ramson Jr. The Ministers inspected ongoing projects and engaged residents on the community’s other development needs.

The Ministers’ visit to the communities is part of the Government’s mandate to meet residents and discuss their concerns, while offering timely solutions. Some $9 billion has been allocated to rehabilitate miscellaneous or community roads under the Ministry of Public Works’ 2021 Budget.
