Ministry of Public Works accepting bids for Parika Port access road and parking apron

The Ministry of Public Works has invited bids for the construction of a Stelling Access Road and Parking Apron at the Parika Port Facility, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to modernise transportation infrastructure.

The construction of the Stelling Access Road and Parking Apron is expected to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and accommodate the increasing number of commuters and vehicles using the Parika port on a daily basis.

The project will also support more efficient ferry operations and boost economic activity along the Essequibo corridor.

A design of the Parika International Port Project

The Parika Stelling is set to undergo a major transformation into a modern $4.5 billion international port facility.

Construction works on Phase 1 began in late 2025.

During a live broadcast in December of 2025, Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill said the upgraded Parika Terminal is intended to play a central role in regional trade, tourism and waterfront development.

He explained that the new port facility will be positioned to support exports to the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), creating direct access to new markets for local farmers.

According to the Invitation for Bids issued by the ministry, contractors are being asked to submit proposals for the construction works, which form part of broader improvements planned for the Parika waterfront.

The bidding process will be conducted through the National Competitive Bidding procedure in keeping with the Procurement Act 2003.

The development forms part of the government’s wider infrastructure modernisation agenda aimed at improving transportation networks, strengthening connectivity between regions, and supporting economic growth.

The government has consistently emphasised its commitment to upgrading ports, roads, and transport facilities nationwide to meet growing demand and enhance service delivery for citizens.

Once completed, the upgraded access road and parking apron are expected to improve commuter convenience and support continued development in the region.

Interested bidders can purchase bidding documents from April 15, 2026, at the Ministry of Public Works, with submissions scheduled to be opened on May 6, 2026, at 0900hrs at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board.
