The fan out of government ministers to various parts of East Berbice-Corentyne (Region 6) is in line with the administration’s goal of meeting the people and addressing their needs.

Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence and Minister within the Ministry of Finance, Jaipaul Sharma met with residents of Scottsburg, East Berbice-Corentyne.

Residents took the opportunity to highlight to the ministers, concerns that affect their communities.

The ministers collectively concluded that this exercise shows that Guyanese need to hear from the government. It was also noted that having ministers visit all the communities is one way in which the government can actively be engaged with different aspects and influences in far-flung villages, like those in Region 6.

Issues ranging from unemployment, the current state of the sugar industry, infrastructure, more specifically roads, activities engaging youth and a better local government were just some of the concerns brought to the ministers by the residents. The ministers praised the willingness of the people to come forward with these concerns as it will indeed allow for swifter and direct solutions to be provided.

Persons in need of jobs had their information recorded while those with land applications brought forward documents which will help in fast-tracking the process. Others with individual concerns spoke directly with the ministers and were assured of timely interventions.
