Prime Minister Phillips, Minister McCoy bring COVID relief to Kingston residents

Prime Minister of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Brigadier (ret’d), Hon. Mark Phillips along with Minister of Public Affairs within the Office of the Prime Minister Hon. Kwame McCoy visited the community of Kingston today to distribute hampers.

The exercise was part of the government’s efforts to cushion the impact the COVID-19 pandemic on citizens.

Speaking to the Department of Public Information, residents expressed their satisfaction with the initiative. Many of them commended the government for taking a hands-on approach of meeting with the people at the community level.

82-year-old Advera Browne told DPI that “it is a great help” adding that the President H.E Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s recent announcement of the $25,000 COVID-19 relief cash grant will also assist.

While Troy Denzel said that the hamper will greatly assist his family as he works privately and “things have been slow.”

“I really do appreciate the assistance that was given on behalf of the government because it contributes a lot to my circumstances.”

Ruth Ramdhani also expressed her satisfaction with the exercise and praised the government for the excellent work they have been doing since assuming office one month ago.

“I feel great about this, it’s very good. I hope the PPP carries on its good work so that we can always benefit from it,” she said.

Earlier this week, President Ali visited several communities in Berbice and along the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway, where he engaged with residents and provided much needed relief for those affected by the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

800 hampers were distributed to families and vulnerable groups in several communities in Region 6 while 1,100 were distributed to households along the Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
