Region 10 to get new RDC building

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, July 26, 2018

The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Ten, Upper Demerara-Berbice will soon have a spanking new building which has been budgeted for at a cost of $261 Million. The building will be two storeys high and will be built at a dimension of 260×60 feet. The contract has already been tendered and should commence in the coming months. Thirty-seven million dollars was already spent on its architectural designing and the clearing of the land amongst other preparatory works.

Staff members and councillors of the Region 10 Regional Democratic Council (RDC) present at the extraordinary statutory meeting

On Wednesday at an extraordinary statutory meeting, Regional Chairman Renis Morian, Regional Vice Chairman Elroy Aldoph, Councillors and staff members met to reaffirm their position that the building must be constructed at Speightland, a community located in Central Mackenzie.

Another proposition was made for the building to be constructed at Bamia on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway. The councillors, however, made a unanimous decision for it to be constructed at Speightland since it will be easily accessible to staff members and residents of Linden. Speightland is located close to the river, to other schools, the new passport office, the National Library, Linden Mayor and Town Council and the Lands of Survey.

The building that the RDC is currently accommodating, is more than 50 years old and has outgrown the number of staff members employed at the location.
