Region 2 to expect more development from budget 2020
─ residents welcome budget measures
The residents of Pomeroon- Supenaam, Region 2 can expect more developments within their region as a result of Budget 2020.
Regional Executive Officer (REO), Devanand Ramdatt in a recent interview with DPI expressed satisfaction with the region’s budgetary allocations amounting to $4.7 billion.
“We have a very short window period for the implementation of this year’s budget but what we have done is we have started to prepare the bills of quantities and we’re hoping to do the advertisements so that the implementation of these projects in the pipeline can be done within the three-months timeframe.”
Some of the projects set to be undertaken include the construction of bridges, revetment works and the establishment of a COVID-19 isolation facility.
Mr. Ramdatt noted that the region’s budget benefited from consultations and input from key stakeholders. “It is aimed at transforming lives,” the REO said.
Speaking to several residents in the region, it was evident that Budget 2020 was long awaited.
Khemraj Khandai, a vender told DPI, “We have been waiting for this a long time and I can see there is a little of everything in it.”
Mr. Khandai commended the government for the relief measures put in the Budget, which he observed, “will ease the strain on citizens all across the country.
He continued, “this region has a lot of potential. Most of the development from ExxonMobil would be central in Georgetown but we have to play our part. The people coming are not coming with food so we have to produce the food for them.”
Mark Bobb, a teacher in Region 2, commended the government for considering the people while crafting the 2020 fiscal package adding that “the effects can only be positive.”
Speedboat captain, Fidel Gibson said he “feels good about the budget in general because it has a lot to offer school children and elderly people.”
“It is a really good thing when you can put back money into people’s pocket than keep taking out all the time so people can live a better life and enjoy a better Guyanese way of living,” he expressed.
