‘Set a goal and work to achieve it’ – Danu Mangal

“Have a goal. Work towards it, because there is not a thing more fulfilling than reaping the fruits of your labour.”
This is a saying that best describes 11-year-old Danu Reha Mangal of Beterverwagting-Quamina Primary School.
Attaining 504 marks from this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examination, Mangal is set to attend St. Roses High in September, a goal that she is happy to have accomplished.
“I am very excited and happy… it is actually one of the top schools I was studying for, so I am glad that I got in,” she added.
The aspiring doctor credits the support of her family, teachers and God for her performance, noting that without His blessing, her success would have been impossible to achieve.
Mangal said that this included a comprehensive study plan which started right after her extra-curricular studies, noting that her biggest sacrifice was giving up on the use of electronics.
Mangal’s mother, Sarika Mangal, recalled her daughter’s rigorous study schedule. “It was a bit tough. She would come back from her lessons and start to study all over… when she comes from the lesson at 6 pm., she continues from 6:30 pm to 10 in the night,” the proud mother explained.
She noted that while it was tough for everyone, it is important for parents to be involved in this process.
Mangal encourages others to follow a study plan like hers to gain a placement at their dream school. “I would like others [students] to focus on their schoolwork and make a sacrifice by giving up their electronics and at the end, you will see the success.”
While she jokingly stated that her mind is her number one talent, Mangal is also quite a skilled artist – a talent which will have to take a back seat for now as her dreams to become a doctor take preference.
