Texila American University hosts international conference for students – Minister Cummings stresses importance of research

Texila American University today, opened its inaugural ‘International Conference for Medical Students’ at its Providence campus. The meeting is intended to promote students’ career development and encourage innovative thinking.

Minister within the Ministry of Health, Dr. Karen Cummings, in delivering the feature address, stressed the importance of research and encouraged students to strive to be more professional doctors. The Minster noted that her expectation that this conference will stimulate a sharing of ideas among the participants.

“I have no doubt that at the end of this conference, a significant cross-pollination of ideas would have taken place and participants would be especially enriched with the knowledge garnered from this academic forum”, Minister Cummings said.

The conference will provide a conducive environment for medical students to broaden their knowledge on issues that can positively impact their particular areas of study resulting in a more refined understanding of internationally accepted concepts, standards and practices

The two-day conference concludes May 25. The event features presentations by regional and international professors, practising surgeons and other medical professionals and students.

The meeting is being hosted under the theme “Enriching the Caribbean medical education through research.
