Tuschen Call Centre being considered for business hub

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, March 20, 2019

The business potential of Tuschen was today explored when Minister of Business, Dominic Gaskin toured the village’s call centre.

The project which began under the previous administration in 2014, came under the Ministry of Business’ Rural Development Project. Initially, the building was to house a call centre to increase economic opportunities and capabilities of vulnerable groups within Region 3.

Minister Gaskin said the facility is now being considered for a commercial hub after efforts to have investors come on board did not come to fruition.

“We would like to use this building for the benefit of the local community because a lot of money has been invested in it and we feel that it can provide appropriate workspace for different types of activities.”

According to Minister Gaskin, his office is working on a plan to have other local enterprises to occupy the building.

“Maybe not strictly within the community because there are 300 work stations in here plus an administrative area that has a number of offices. Easily, this building can hold four hundred employees.”

He said the investment must benefit the community.

A similar building has been constructed at Enmore on the East Coast of Demerara, and discussions are ongoing with a potential investor.

The Business Minister also met with the Tuschen taxi drivers during his visit. More on this in a subsequent report.
