“We are not here to make promises but to understand the issues affecting our citizens so we can work together to make a difference… We, from the Coalition Government, want everyone to have a better life, better lifestyle, better condition under which you live, better roads, clean drains, good health facilities, playground and activities for our youth,” Minister of Social Cohesion, Dr. George Norton told Region 5 (Mahaica-Berbice) residents during a ministerial outreach held at the Bath Primary School.

The minister related that the administration should be seen as and considered servants to the people who must work in partnership to achieve a better quality of life for all.

“We [coalition government] want Guyana to develop and to do that we want everyone to have the same opportunity as others… We want you to know that we care for the people in Bath and will continue to improve living standards,” Minister Norton said.

He stressed that the lack of support from relevant stakeholders would stagnate development and cause the country to remain the way it is, hence, it is imperative that residents speak out about issues they want to be addressed.

Among the matters highlighted were the rehabilitation of a playground, lack of proper sanitary facilities at Bath Primary School, squatting and the absence of youth activities.

Minister Norton has pledged his commitment to assist in the rehabilitation of a playground in the community.

Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings who accompanied the Social Cohesion Minister, reiterated the need for unity among citizens to accomplish a common goal.

“We need to focus on the bigger pictures; victory at the next elections. We need to work collectively at achieving our objectives as it is to remain in power… Comrade, the time has come for all of us to put aside our petty differences and work together,” she said.

The ministers along with the team conducted health checks as they walked around the Bath community. Medical check-ups were given to patients who either have diabetes or lost a limb due to diabetes.
