One hundred and twenty (120) Guyanese will soon be recruited and trained in basic safety and oilfield operations. According to information released on OilNOW, a local oil and gas website, Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI) and TOTALTEC Oilfield Services are collaborating on this initiative.

The training will enable the new recruits to join and participate in Guyana’s emerging oil and gas industry. Recruitment and training will be conducted by TOTALTEC International Petroleum and Maritime Academy (IPMA, known as The Academy) using their existing programs in the next four months.

The OilNOW article quoted the two companies saying the initiative is geared to “to keep pace with increasing offshore operations, including additional drilling rigs and the impending arrival of the first Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel [Liza Destiny], GYSBI is expanding operational activities, requiring in excess of 120 Guyanese to fill safety and operational positions on the shore base located in Houston, Greater Georgetown.”

The article added that Chief Executive Officer of TOTALTEC, Lars Mangal and Executive Director of GYSBI, Robin Muneshwer shared similar view that they are happy to provide the training for Guyanese.

“We’re proud of our workforce and what they have achieved from those early beginnings of the shore base in April 2017. The strong safety culture and their skills remain the foundation of our success. We look forward to growing our workforce to over 300 Guyanese strong before year end and continuing our leading role in developing local content,” Muneshwer said.

Mangal added: “We now have the building blocks to meet this aggressive goal, it’s a major and intensive undertaking to recruit and train 120 new young men and women in 4 months to join the industry.”

Successful candidates will attend training in Houston, greater Georgetown in a six-week hands-on safety and operational training before joining GYSBI, where they will complete training.

The two companies have, thus far, provided training and employment for 350 Guyanese in their shore base operations in a wide range of activities.
