Through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Infrastructure along with the Ministry of Finance, residents of Andyville, Linden, Region 10 were for the first time equipped with electricity. At a Saturday morning ceremony, scores of persons from the community turned out for the commissioning of Andyville’s new power station, which is slated to benefit almost 300 community members.

Michael Greene, Chairman of Andyville, delivered a passionate summary on the journey his community has travelled to arrive at the historic moment. Greene noted the failed promises community dwellers endured under the previous administration and expressed his delight in seeing their efforts brought to fruition.

While acknowledging the relentless spirit of those in Andyville, Green stated, “people need to support more and stop criticising” with respect to community service.

Meanwhile, Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson highlighted the efforts by the Coalition Government in the provision of electricity to areas that have never had access. One day after the minister commissioned a 5.5 megawatt power plant in Caneville, Berbice, Minister Patterson told Andyville’s residents that;

“On March 21^st, I’m going to open a new [power] plant in Anna Regina, and in the next month we are going to open a new [power] plant in Bartica.”

Additionally, Minister Patterson noted that the Granger-lead administration is not interested in the giving of “handouts”, but instead is concerned with the development of its citizens.

“We want to empower you,” Minister Patterson emphasized.

Meanwhile, Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan, in his remarks, unequivocally stated,

“We are a government of all the people.”

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the transformation of the lives of its citizens.

Also, in attendance were the Mayor of Linden, Waneka Arrindell, and Chairman of Linden’s Electricity Company, Tracey Johnson, who both welcomed the government’s involvement in fostering the progress of Linden.

After securing $39Billion in budgetary allocations, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure remains dedicated to enhancing the living conditions of Guyanese through its projects and initiatives.
