Beach Football Tournament promises thrills

DPI, Guyana, Tuesday, October 16, 2018

Sixteen local football teams will be going head-to-head, vying for a chance to win five hundred thousand dollars at the upcoming ‘Bragging Rights’ beach football tournament. The five aside competition on the Kingston Beach Front will be the first of its kind and is supported by the National Sports Commission.

Promoter, Marlon Jacobs.

Popular promoter Marlon Jacobs said it was an opportunity to add a new dimension to the game of football for fans in Guyana.  Jacobs said “we wanted to bring something new to the football tournaments, because there are a lot of football competitions that happen throughout the year but none of them have ever been played on the beach. I wanted to host a football match with a difference and fuse it with entertainment; so, I think the beach is the best place for that.”

The three-day tournament features teams from Georgetown, East Coast Demerara, Berbice and Linden starts on Friday, October 19. The tournament is expected to be full of excitement since there are no second chances, win or go home.

“I want this tournament to match those played internationally. Fans can expect a lot of bright lights, cheerleaders, music and an after party. I think the fans will enjoy it and get their monies worth” Jacobs underscored.

Football fans are being urged to come out and support the much-anticipated tournament. The event starts at 18:00 hours each day. Tickets cost $1000 and seasonal three-day passes are $2500.
