Chilean Ambassador pays courtesy call on Human Services Minister

training and scholarship opportunities discussed

Training and scholarship opportunities for young people and programmes to empower women were among the initiatives explored for possible consideration from the Government of Chile through its embassy here in Guyana.

The social services programmes were discussed when His Excellency Patricio Becker, Chilean Ambassador to Guyana, paid a courtesy call on Hon Dr. Vindhya Persaud, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, this morning.

Minister Persaud highlighted several projects that were developed to empower young people and women, including the recently launched Young Influencers initiative, which facilitates young people working alongside the Ministry to create transformative programmes to influence their peers.

She also noted that officers who have to interact with migrants could also benefit from Spanish courses.   To this end, Ambassador Becker stated that he “looking forward to forging a fruitful relationship” with the Ministry so that several initiatives discussed could be set in motion.
