First batch of 50 to begin training at Centre of Excellence in Information Technology

─ Centre is part of govt’s support efforts to develop a digital economy and a “tech-savvy” population

DPI, Guyana, Monday, August 13, 2018

The Centre of Excellence in Information Technology (CEIT) located at the University of Guyana, Turkeyen Campus is expected to accept its first batch of 50 students this month.

According to the government’s Mid-Year Report presented on August 8 in the National Assembly, the last shipment of equipment to outfit the centre was recently received.

The establishment of the Centre is part of the government’s support efforts to develop a digital economy and a “tech-savvy” population.

The modern training facility for public service employees is a collaborative initiative with the Government of India.

Training for public servants will be provided by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, contracted by the Government of India.

Persons will be selected and trained as master trainers for six months in India.

The CEIT will offer advanced ICT training in the areas of networking, cyber security, software development and IT project management among others. Training will be conducted over a two-year period.

$160Million was allocated in the 2017 National Budget for the centre.
