GNSC CONTINUES TO INVEST WITH THE ACQUISITION OF TWO NEW DOOSAN 5 TONNE FORK TRUCKS

In a bid to improve operations and customers’ experience and in line with its strategic plan to develop and modernize its facilities and equipment, the Guyana National Shipping Corporation Limited has acquired and commissioned two new 5 tonne Doosan Fork Trucks at a cost of G$19 M to complement its existing fleet.

At a simple commissioning ceremony held on December 31, 2018, Mr. Andrew Astwood, Managing Director of GNSC said, “the acquisition is meant to deliver efficient service to our customers and principals and to achieve effective terminal operations, improve performance, competitiveness and reduce downtime.”

He stated, “that the GNSC will continue to build capacity in other areas of our diverse and multi-purpose operations, noting that we will soon launch and commission a 12,400 sq ft warehouse, a signature capital project in our five years strategic plan.”

Mr. Astwood outlined that the GNSC is building its capacity and positioning itself for the numerous opportunities and partnerships of the emerging Oil & Gas sector. The Managing Director emphasized the demand and need for delivering high quality, safety and standards and urged CARE in the use and operations of the new fork trucks. He reminded the gathering of mainly Managers, Operators and Maintenance Crew of GNSC’s commitment and motto ‘WE CARE YOUR CARGO’.

The acquisition of these fork trucks is timely, and the investment provides “a fresh start for the New Year, 2019”. “Outsourcing of fork trucks would now be a thing of the past.” Remarked the managing Director.

Ms. Samantha Green, Finance Controller in her brief remarks, said that “the fork trucks in addition to improving efficiency will bring in revenue and contribute to the company’s growth.”

Terminal Manager, Mr. Ashford Glen said “that fork trucks are our bread and butter machines and a vital part of our logistics and that they will boost the terminal’s handling capacity.” He also urged care in the use of the equipment.

Additional investments in strategic equipment, facility and infrastructure are planned for 2019.
