In an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI), GPL’s Director of Operations, Bharat Harjohn described the situation on the ground. “The feeder tripped due to a fault. They were able to isolate the fault between Aubrey Barker Street and the back of South [Ruimveldt]. The crew is checking this area to pinpoint the fault,” Dir. Harjohn explained.

The feeder in question has a distribution capacity of 13.8 kilovolts. According to the Operations Director, this feeder is the main power line that supplies North and South Ruimveldt area. From this feeder, voltage is broken down by the transformers, which is then supplied to GPL’s customers.

At present, GPL has its employees in the field working to ensure there is a stable and reliable flow of electricity to the affected area. “There is a small area still out [of power] since they were able to narrow down where the fault could be. The crew is troubleshooting the area,” stated the Director of Operations.
