GTA condemns all acts of violence against wildlife species

The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) has been monitoring the current flood situation that has impacted Guyana’s ten (10) Administrative Regions. Now categorized as a Level 2 Disaster, the situation is growing increasingly worrying as the country has only just begun making significant strides in its journey towards recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important that we all stay calm, and provide as much unwavering support as possible to each other during this time.

Guyana’s equally vulnerable, displaced wildlife must also be considered. Recent social media posts of persons harming some of the most endangered wildlife species, unprovoked, has been alarming. Our wildlife helps to keep this pristine environment intact, and by extension help our planet’s biodiversity thrive. This density of wildlife species also plays a vital role in Guyana’s tourism landscape and they must be protected. The GTA strongly condemns violence against these wildlife species and is urging the general public to be mindful when interacting with them.

The GTA will continue to work with the Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission (GWCMC) to strengthen the existing regulations to protect our vulnerable wildlife species, but the public must be cognizant of the effects of their actions during this time.

Persons  that  encounter  wildlife and require assistance, do reach out to the GWCMC on 223-0331, 223-0940, 646-1229 or 648-8839.
