Students of West Ruimveldt Secondary School received a packed barrel of school supplies from a successful Guyanese-American Politician who has always sought the opportunity to help at-risk youths in Guyana.

Roxanne Persaud is a member of the New York Senate. She has always believed in giving back to the education system in Guyana, and today she was able to make that possible for students attending the West Ruimveldt Secondary, through the Non-Governmental Organisation – ‘Mystique Dance and Youth Empowerment’. The presentation was made at the David Rose Center in Georgetown.

The students received novels and exercise books for school, school utensils, bookbags, board games, among other items. Many books were donated to the Mystique Dance and Youth Empowerment Library where students from the secondary school and the youths in the community will get access.

The Mystique Dance and Youth Empowerment was established 12 years ago with a mandate to work with vulnerable and marginalised youths. Collin Blaize is the Executive Director of the organisation. “We are very happy for this initiative because lots of times we have seen youths who do not have access to these little things that would mean so much,” Blaize remarked.
